Transforming pensions to empower savers to plan for their future
Hymans Robertson - an indepedent pensions consultancy that services the private and public sector - required concept development and refinement for 'GO' platform, a transformative service that empowers customers to take control of their pensions.
Collaborative working with different departments across Hymans Robertson to understand the requirements and develop the concept. This involved working closely with management teams in London, and working with build teams in Edinburgh to develop and realise the design solution.
Trying to communicate the intricate complexities to users is quite a challenge. Content was prioritised and grouped across three levels to ensure users received the right information at the right time.
A researcher conducted testing sessions during each iteration, ensuring that the design and proposition were understood by users. Each iteration of the prototype progressed the design fidelity, starting at low-detail sketches and progressing to high-detail wireframes.
I worked closely with a visual designer to develop the design and ensure the integrity of the experience was maintained. It was important that the design was clear and simple for users to understand and interact with.
The design framework needed to be extremely flexible to allow rebranding, making it easy for the salesteam to sell the GO platform to clients. Slots were allocated within the page templates for branding, while also outlining where the use of imagery may affect usability.
Since launching, the GO platform has received buy-in from high-end clients that provide pensions to a large employee base. The platform received positive press coverage, claiming that some employees have been 'doubling what they're saving'. The GO platform was awarded DC Investment Innovation of the Year, and Hymans Robertson were recognised as Consultancy of the Year at the 2015 UK Pensions Awards.
GO is leading the market in changing pension savings behaviour for the DC generation. Our approach of focussing on outcomes for employees has set the standard for measuring workplace savings success.

Engagement has been high, with a third of the users on the site using the functionality to investigate the best way to get back on track and over 10% making immediate changes to save more. We’ve had some great feedback from members, telling us that the site is 'intuitive and easy to understand' as well as providing them with 'the impetus to do something about it'. This is exactly what we were hoping for.
